


There are around 19 million people aged 50 and over in the UK and by 2050 40% of Europe's population will be over 60. It is important that EU and UK policy priorities and legislation reflect these facts.
This section of my website will keep you up-to-date on EU policy towards an ageing Europe and provide a link to the work of the European Parliament's Intergroup on AGE.

The Intergroup on Ageing has recently re-launched in the European Parliament after Enlargement of the EU to include 10 new countries from Central and Eastern Europe. Originally set up in 1984, the intergroup brings together MEPs of different nationality and political backgrounds working to push issues relating to age up the EU agenda.
The EU Age Discrimination Directive becomes law in the UK on 1st October. Conservatives urge more opportunity and less red tape to enable older people to access employment and training.
